Sanco raises eyebrows following Mogale’s budget speech

After the annual budget speech was presented by Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi, Raliphi Xolelizwe gave his feedback. He is the chairperson of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Mogale City.
“There’s good news and there’s bad news for Mogale City following the most recent budget speech, which was delivered in the Centenary Hall on Thursday, 31 May.
“An inadequate budget was approved, despite the disapproval of opposition parties (DA and EFF). The support the EFF gave the DA in council showed commitment to undermining the process of democracy and change in the country,” he said.
His concern can be mainly attributed to Kagiso Phase 2, which consists of 500 houses that were allocated to indigent residents late last year. According to Xolelizwe the entire community has been suffering from the lack of electricity since day one.

“I refer to it as an inadequate budget because even though Phase 2 was left without a lot of necessities, the mayor failed to mention anything about it in the budget.
“We, as Sanco, are saying that we are going to put pressure on the municipality to electrify the area,” he promised.
According to Xolelizwe the lack of electricity also poses the risk of increasing crime rates. Since Phase 2 had been built next to an open veldt, it became easy for criminals to access houses since there is no form of electricity or light during the dark of night.
He also emphasised that in the same veldt several bodies had been found recently. Even though he would like the open land to be developed into a much-needed sewerage pipe system, he added that nothing is being done to utilise the space properly. There is a risk that veldt could be occupied by informal settlers, Xolelizwe added.
He also mentioned the lack of geysers, playgrounds, youth stimulation, swimming pools, clinics, schools, street lights, street names and service delivery in Phase 1. The high cemetery rates also need to be lowered for indigent residents.
“The municipality needs to move with more urgency to resolve these issues. In fact, the sewerage network in Kagiso and Munsieville in general is in a bad condition too. Infrastructure development should remain an important focus for the next five years,” he said.
He concluded by saying that even though these matters were brought up on various occasions, he didn’t hesitate to voice them once again during the budget meeting. As Sanco chairperson Xolelizwe aims to move Mogale City forward by ensuring that no problematic issue goes unnoticed.
