Tarlton community said no against the building of 6 000 RDP houses!
"People need houses, not death traps."
The Tarlton Community has made it clear that they’re against the building of 6 000 RDP houses in an open field in their area.
More than 100 residents of the area gathered at the construction site located on the Brickvale Development yesterday morning, 19 June, to make themselves heard.

They wielded signs depicting slogans such as “People need houses, not death traps” and “Dolomite dense housing, Danger”.

They believe that a huge development on this ground is a risk for those who will live there because of the dolomite beneath the surface, a lack of infrastructure and beliefs that the development could negatively impact agriculture in the area.
“The development is also controversial because the Mogale City Local Municipality and the Provincial Department for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) did not follow a public participation process, and the planned development will be built on unstable dolomitic ground,” said Jaco Mulder, provincial leader for the Freedom Front Plus in Gauteng.

Local councillor, Amanda de Lange, added that this isn’t the first time this land has been considered for this development.
“During the previous effort, we did environment impact studies which proved that the area isn’t suitable for high density housing as proposed here today.”
Meanwhile, back-actor diggers, construction vehicles and construction workers stood behind the fence and watched the furious residents protesting against the development. There were also residents who claimed that some of their domestic and garden workers who live in informal settlements nearby had already received letters stating that they would soon receive RDP houses built on that property.
The FF+ called the project unlawful, and asked the Gauteng Member of the Executive Committee for the CoGta, Uhuru Moiloa, to intervene as soon as possible.
