Muldersdrift Police have their hands full with shootouts
In two separate incidents police had to deal with shots being fired, resulting in one suspect being killed.
The Muldersdrift Police responded to two incidents yesterday, 11 September, during which shots were fired.
Police arrested one suspect and another died after what seemed like an intimidation ploy that had gone wrong.
According to police spokesperson, Constable Slindile Ntuli, a 50-year-old man was busy working on a client’s motorbike engine in Rietvallei when things turned ugly.

“An amount was still due to the man, but the client intimidated the man, telling him that he would send people to retrieve his engine and that they would use force if necessary.”
Ntuli said two armed men showed up a little later to retrieve the engine.
“A confrontation started and one of the men pulled out his firearm. A scuffle ensued and the mechanic got hold of the firearm. Shots were fired, resulting in one suspect being shot.” He died on the scene and the other was arrested after trying to flee.
Later that evening, in a separate incident, the police’s intelligence members received information that a house robbery and possible murder were about to be committed.
The members spotted a Toyota Hilux with suspects inside, and a shootout ensued. Two suspects aged 41 and 32 were injured and taken to hospital under police guard, and the other two, aged 29 and 34, were arrested.
The other suspects fled the scene on foot. Two pistols and cartridges were recovered from the scene.
“We are appealing to the community to assist with any information that may lead to the arrest of the other suspects,” Ntuli said.
