Name the new monkeys and you could win big!
The new arrivals do not have names yet, which is where you come in.
A pair of endangered monkeys need name suggestions from you, the public – and if yours is chosen, you and your family will win an amazing Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve experience.
Recently, a pair of L’Hoest’s monkeys arrived at the reserve, situated in the Cradle of Humankind. The male and female have settled in beautifully to their brand new, purpose-built enclosure and now they are ready to be named, like all of the other residents of the reserve’s much-loved Animal Crèche.
With their black and chestnut colouring and dramatic white ruffs reminiscent of a fluffy scarf, L’Hoest’s monkeys look like sophisticated Joburgers wrapped up for winter – though they’re actually from the tropical heat of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Like many other species in the region, they are under threat from habitat loss and the bush-meat trade.
The new arrivals do not have names yet, which is where you come in. Why not take a road trip to the reserve and see these glamorous cousins of the familiar vervet monkeys and suggest names once you’ve had a chance to get to know them?
Their new enclosure is just the first of many exciting upgrades for one of Gauteng’s most popular tourist attractions, which is now owned and operated by the Bothongo Group.
The prize for each of the winners is a memorable family Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve experience including:
· One night’s luxury log cabin accommodation
· Game drive including predator feeding
· Cheetah run and snake show
· Animal crèche access
· Bothongo Wondercave access
· Kids’ bike hire at the Bike Park
The winning names will be announced at the end of September, and the winners will be immortalised on signboards at the monkey’s enclosure.
