Burglar sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment

The accused's first case was opened in 2011 when he broke into the residence of a 60-year-old female.

Detective Constable Qoboza recently secured a sentence of 16 years’ imprisonment for four house break-ins and thefts that occurred in the Hekpoort area.

The accused’s first case was opened in 2011 when he broke into the residence of a 60-year-old woman. Upon arrival, police found that 20 camp chairs, curtains and cutlery had been stolen.

In 2016, the accused broke into a 69-year-old man’s house, where he stole an LG Hi-fi system. The accused returned earlier this year when he stole the same man’s desktop computer, backup hard drive, speakers and flat screen LED TV.

Later in 2016, the third complainant left her house and upon returning the following day, found that her plasma TV had been moved from where it was and the speakers were unplugged. The burglar door was also damaged and the hammer belonging to the owner was on the floor. Nothing was stolen.

The accused went to the fourth house in the same year and entered the house after removing the aluminium door. He stole a plasma TV.

All five dockets were assigned to detective Constable Qoboza, who joined the police 11 years ago and was posted at the Hekpoort detective department.

He investigated the dockets and achieved in the arrest of 22-year-old Patrick Ndlovu, who is of Zimbabwean origin.

Through his hard work, dedication and commitment, the accused was found guilty on four charges, the fifth being withdrawn due to the death of the complainant.

“The accused was found guilty in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to a total of 16 years’ imprisonment,” Constable Gloria Maswanganye, Hekpoort Police spokesperson said.

Acting station commander of Hekpoort Police, Captain VJ Mlambo, welcomed the sentence and applauded the member’s hard work.
