A dinner and dance to help the fight against cancer
This prestigious event welcomed many great supporters, proponents and cancer survivors.
An annual dinner dance to benefit the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and the Lumin Foundation was held at Usambara Lodge recently.
While Cansa’s purpose is to lead the fight against cancer in South Africa by offering a unique and integrated service to the public and all people affected by cancer, the Lumin Foundation aims to bring hope and light to children suffering from cancer and the families who love and support them.
Once again the prestigious event welcomed many great supporters, proponents and cancer survivors.
These selfless guests were treated to a delectable three-course meal, a sassy fashion show hosted by Oxygen Models and spectacular live entertainment by local artist, Johan Anker.
Many supporters were driven to tears when Zandré Botha – founder of the Lumin Foundation – spoke about her 11-year-old son’s terrifying battle with leukaemia.
She firmly believes that God has given her a clear vision to build a children’s hospital in South Africa that will bring state-of-the art therapy to the most vulnerable little people suffering from illnesses and diseases. This platform enabled her to invite others to join in the journey of making this calling a reality.
Ester Pretorius from Cansa also spread some hope and encouragement when she spoke about her journey in overcoming this often deadly disease.
The night ended off on a high note when a few lucky guests received some special gifts – including Danté’s first painting of the Lumin character and a handmade Lumin doll – as part of a lucky draw. The proceeds of a raffle hosted by internationally acclaimed auctioneer Dave Price also benefited these Foundations.
