Junior Commissioners to lead the way

The Muldersdrift Police held a junior commissioners' election recently and interviewed 14 learners from St Angus High School.

The Muldersdrift Police held a junior commissioners’ election on Friday, 19 October, and 14 Grade 8 learners from St Angus High School were interviewed.

The Junior Commissioner Project was introduced in South Africa to get the youth involved in the fight against crime. The junior commissioners sometimes work with adult commissioners at various events. They are tasked with teaching their peers and representing their senior counterparts.

The idea behind the introduction of the Junior Commissioners’ Project is to target issues like drug abuse and violence in schools.

All police branches in the West Rand will choose two to three youths to be on the Junior Commissioners’ panel.

The three learners who were chosen as junior commissioners for Muldersdrift were 15-year-old Nthabeleng Thwala, who was elected as junior detective commander, 16-year-old Jackson Moyo, who was elected as junior Visible Policing commander and 13-year-old Bongani Mzolo, who will serve as junior station commander.
