A little help goes a long way

'This group of children really enjoy helping where they can and making life better for fellow learners.'

For the past three years, local resident and activist, Elsie Nxumalo, has been visiting Lesego Primary School – a rather underprivileged school situated in Muldersdrift – on a monthly basis in an effort to provide the Grade 6 and 7 girls with sanitary pads.

Since she manages this project on her own – with a little help from time to time – she was thrilled when the Maragon Ruimsig Grade 8 group decided to get involved.

“The group decided on their own that they would like to take on the project. They managed to collect quite a few items that would help these underprivileged girls,” Anzel Harmse and Elaine Cooper from the school said.

These items included underwear, sanitary pads, deodorant and other toiletries. Elsie went on to say that she would now like to include the boys from Lesego as well.

“I have been supporting the girls for quite some time. I thought it might be time to reach out to the boys as well. They also deserve things like deodorant and basic personal hygiene products,” she said.

According to Anzel and Elaine, they might even get involved in this project too.

“It seems like to the perfect opportunity for our next project. This group of children really enjoy helping where they can and making life better for fellow learners,” they said.
