A runaway success Night Race for the Lions

This event is always met with smiles all round - the biggest smiles, however, came from the children and adults participating in the race.

The Krugersdorp Lions Club, with the assistance of the Khosa Running Club, has been hosting the Khosa Night Race for more than 20 years.

Children and adults recently took to the street again. Every year, persons with mental and physical disabilities as well as their helpers come to together to run this more than 2km race. No less than 120 participants took on the race this year, and runners from Gateway Village, Gateway School, and the West Rand Association for People with Disabilities were seen giving it their all. The race started at 6pm, and during the race laughter could be heard through the streets of Kenmare as groups of people ran, walked and enjoyed their time together.

A medal and some cold water waited for every smiling face that crossed the finish line.”This event is always met with smiles all round – from the organisers to the people driving past, to the runners’ assistants. The biggest smiles, however, came from the children and adults participating in the race,” said Ashley Stander, one of the Krugersdorp Lions Club members. Afterward everyone was treated to a boerewors roll and a packet of sweets to take home.
