Entrepreneurship and enterprise development need to be used as an integrated vehicle for economic transformation within the business environment, and Mogale City Local Municipality and its partner, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), have shown their commitment to promoting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in a bid to strengthen informal businesses.
One way to address job creation and self-confidence within the informal and formal businesses, which inevitably leads to breaking the proverbial ‘glass ceiling’, is to empower local business owners to become focused entrepreneurs through transferal of skills.
Addressing local business owners at a ceremony held to mark the handing-over of equipment at the Chief Mogale Community hall in Kagiso, Mogale City Executive Mayor, councillor Naga Patrick Lipudi said Mogale City has recognised the need to highlight business transformation through broad-based enterprise development.

Mogale City, in collaboration with Seda and the Department of Small Business Development, handed over equipment to Informal Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP) beneficiaries within Mogale City. The equipment ranges from sewing machines and refrigerators, to laptops and catering equipment, among others.
The IMEDP is part of the National Informal Business Upliftment Strategy (NIBUS), driven by the Department of Small Business Development. NIBUS seeks to address the development void at the lower level of SMME development, and to uplift and render support to informal businesses.
Moses Kelly, the Regional Communications and Marketing Manager, was very pleased with the partnership and said he is looking forward to strengthening it.
