Firefighting training for CPF Sector 3 members

CPF Sector 3 felt it was necessary to ensure that all their members know how to work with fire extinguishers and their new 'fire engine' for the next time they're called out to the scene of a fire.

The Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) Sector 3 members came together on Saturday, 26 January for firefighting and safety training.

In a piece of open veld on the corner of Third and Bodenstein Streets, the group set up a training course, where multiple vehicles were stationed and fire extinguishers spread about. Instructors then led participants through the course, showing them the correct procedures for using the extinguishers as well as other firefighting equipment. The groups were placed in one of two sessions, one starting at 10am and the second at 2pm.

The training was primarily for their active patrollers, who can be called out to fight house or veld fires at any time. This is often necessary, as CPF members tend to arrive on scene before the Krugersdorp Fire Brigade, simply because they’re so much closer. First responders can better fend off the flames until the fire brigade shows up, or even stop the fire completely when they have proper training and the right equipment.

To assist them to achieve this, the Sector 3 members have built a kind of fire engine on an open-bed trailer, equipped with a water tank, fire hose and motorised pump. Whenever they get the call, one of the members will hook up the trailer and drive it down to the scene of the fire, where other members will quickly jump into action.

CPF Sector 3 covers the Krugersdorp North, Chancliff, Rant-en-Dal, Dan Pienaarville and Quellerie Park areas. Their contact numbers are 072 517 1610 or 062 816 5471.
