Alone on Valentine’s Day? We’ve got you covered …
Not everyone is all fired up about the gratuitous day-of-love, and some people want it to be just like any other day.
So, you’re single and it’s only days away from Valentine’s Day …
Have you thought about what you’re going to do on the day?
Well, for most it’s a normal school or work day where you can keep busy as usual. That’s if you survive the tsunami of hearts, flowers and chocolates that the people around you are handing out to their secret (or not so secret) crushes. But, you survived the day, you get home and everyone who has a date is out doing something. So what should you do?
The News has a few suggestions for you:
1. How about calling up all of your single friends and going out together? You can even meet up with people you haven’t seen in years, and you might just have a good night in your mutual singleness. You’d also be surprised to noticed that there are countless more people just like you, on a night out without a significant other just to have a bit of fun.
2. Not in the mood for the crowds? How about staying in, lining up your favourite slasher films and gorging yourself on a bowl of popcorn and a couple of litres of chocolate milk? For those 18 and older I recommend the classics, like My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th, Saw or Final Destination.
3. Thrillers not your thing? Then fire up that gaming console. If you’re lucky, you’ll get told what a n00b you are by several single people from all around the world. But, chances are you’ll match up with a great group of people and have a really fun night. You might even consider inviting people over for a full night of gaming.
4. What about a good book, a glass of wine and a bubble bath? Lie back, watch the candles flicker on the roof and read about your favourite vampires finding love.
5. Ignoring the day completely not really your thing? How about going in the complete opposite direction? Send out a few prank Valentine cards to friends or colleagues. Or, how about you get someone to deliver you ten cards during the day, all addressed to you, from you. Read them in front of everyone, shrug your shoulders and throw them in the trash. You can even send yourself flowers and just dump them with a “Please, like I’m that cheap”. If you can’t join them, make some fun of them, I say.
6. Maybe you want to lean into the celebrations, even if you don’t have your own Valentine. How about buying a bunch of roses and handing them out to random passers-by. Buy some chocolates and share them with your colleagues. Buy balloons, place a cute quote inside each before blowing them up and give them to people around you to light up their day.
7. Or, go to sleep. It has been a long weekday after all.
