Slight tremor felt from Randfontein to Krugersdorp

The tremor felt early on in Krugersdorp was not serious and does not seem to have had any lasting effect.

Krugersdorpers experienced a light earth tremor this morning, 1 March, at about 7am. Though it lasted only about two seconds, many were surprised by it.

The tremor registered a magnitude of 3,7 on the Richter Scale at its epicentre near Randfontein and lessened as it moved toward Krugersdorp.

For context, a magnitude of between 2,5 and 5,4 magnitude is usually lightly felt, and doesn’t often cause any damage. Very slight damage to buildings is caused beyond this level.

It’s reported that only certain areas felt the quick tremor, and so far no damage has been reported.
