Bakkie veers off R28 bridge and lands on roof on Robert Broom

Lives were lost when a bakkie flipped off the R28 bridge close to the Plantland nursery and landed on its roof on Robert Broom Drive.

This morning (1 April) traffic on Robert Broom Drive was severely affected by an accident that happened close to the Plantland nursery.

It appeared that a bakkie was travelling on the R28 towards Pretoria and between the two bridges it fell onto the road below.

The bakkie landed on its roof and eyewitnesses recounted on Facebook how they had to swerve out of its way as it fell.

While the News team was on scene emergency services were extricating the passengers with the help of mechanical equipment. At least one person was declared dead on the scene.

Reports later indicated that four people had lost their lives in the accident.
