Brand new display for St Ursula’s school

After months of hard work the mosaic in the St Ursula's school garden is finally done. And it is beautiful.

St Ursula’s School can now boast with a brand new display in its garden, thanks to the estate manager, Jurie Fouché, who spent countless hours meticulously completing a mosaic of the school’s logo.

Jurie said the idea was brought up last year, but the planning and preparations took a while before the actual mosaic could be started.

First the box had to be built and the ground prepared, then the foundation had to be laid. He and his helpers then had to wait for the cement to dry before he could place the template of the logo and start with the detailed work.

He did not work on it continuously – he started in July 2018 and the final work was done in February 2019.
With the school celebrating its 115th birthday this year, the new display will serve as a lovely memorial.

Jurie said the project was challenging, partly because it was his first ever mosaic and he had to learn as he went. Fifty 30cm x 30cm tiles were used for the mosaic.

The school invites everyone to come take a look at the mosaic when they next visit the school.
