A rural safety operation held recently has been branded a success.
Police from the West Rand District conducted the operation with the help of Public Safety officers and the Community Policing Forum (CPF).
The focus of the operation was mostly on illegal liquor outlets, undocumented residents and tuck shops that are not compliant with the relevant environmental health legislation.

This intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of 12 undocumented people as well as three men for possession of dagga.
Two illegal liquor outlets and two tuck shops were closed down.
The police also issued traffic fines to the value of R16 250 and confiscated counterfeit DVDs, gas cylinders and approximately 37 litres of alcohol.
A stern warning was issued by the Visible Policing commander of the West Rand, Brigadier Mashadi Selepe, who said that those who employ and harbour illegal immigrants must know that it is a criminal offence.
More of these operations will be carried out throughout the West Rand in an effort to eradicate crime.
“The Tarlton Police Station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Christinah Tsoaedi, welcomed the initiative and its successes,” said Constable Lucky Matome, spokesperson for the Tarlton Police.
