Curro learners are sport stars
Curro Krugersdorp is producing some of the best boys and girls in sport, boasting with some of their top sport stars before the start of their break.
Curro Krugersdorp had one final opportunity to boast with some of their top sports stars before the second semester drew to a close. Learners Timothy Scott, Heinrich Wasserfall, Hannah Smyth and Daniel Boatard each excelled in their various sports and gained a few accolades in the process.
Timothy and Heinrich both earned their places in the prestigious Curro National Training Camp, which helped them gain a place in the Curro Nationals Tennis team. Heinrich was also included in the Gauteng Central U/13A and the South African U/13 tennis team, which will be travelling to America in August to participate in an international competition.
Hannah, who is the Curro head girl, is one of the very best hockey players Curro has to offer. She has been selected for the U/13A Southern Gauteng Provincial Hockey team recently, and will be competing in the National IPT Tournament in Pietermaritzburg in July. Hannah was also selected as the vice-captain of the team. Through hours of practising and dedication on the astro hockey field she has achieved her dream. She endeavours to give her best, bring back the gold medal with her team and hold Curro’s name high.
Hanu already started working hard last year with his sights set on playing for the Golden Lions rugby team. After three very successful bouts in regional matches, Hanu was chosen to play for the Lions Red Squad. One of the goals with the squad is to prepare young players to play rugby at provincial level. He was one of the final 60 players chosen to participate in the Thys Bezuidenhoudt Rugby Day in preparation for the upcoming Craven Week.
Daniel’s journey to become one of the high jump greats started when he participated in the item for the first time when he was 10 years old, and realised he had a natural talent for it. He was hooked immediately. Last year Daniel started training with a professional coach and reached the provincial tournament, where he fell out in the second round. Undeterred, he soldiered on with the goal of reaching the national team. This year Daniel jumped an impressive 1,51cm and placed second at the Gauteng Championships. He then went through to the SA’s Championship where he placed third with a height of 1,44cm.
