Sidewalk baby is a true blessing
The little boy born on the sidewalk at the Valley View Retail Center, is a happy, healthy child his mom and dad did not expect.
A new life is always a blessing, and that is exactly what a mother who gave birth on the sidewalk of a shopping centre thought when she named her baby boy Blessing.
Newborn Blessing Mokubung did not have the easiest welcome into the world but it was definitely the most exciting.

The team from HEALthWorX at Valley View Retail Centre explained that it was a normal day until a security guard came to their offices to ask them to help. A young woman working at the shopping centre had gone into labour on the sidewalk.
“When I went to lunch that day I felt a pain and movement in my stomach, and eventually I told the manager I didn’t feel well and wanted to go home. She took my clock card and clocked me out,” 35-year old Violet Mokubung explained.

She said that when she came around the corner in front of a restaurant, she felt more pain. As she was going to sit down, she felt a rush of blood and screamed.
Sister Sonja Makoloka and Mariska Mostert raced to the new mother’s side, while a group of Violet’s colleagues took off their jackets and formed a wall to cover her.
“The baby was not breathing and Sister Sonja asked the mother to blow into his mouth,” explained Mariska.
After chest compressions and a few breaths, the baby gasped for air. He was rushed to the casualty rooms and only after the doctor started working on him did he give his first cry.
Mom and baby were rushed to Leratong Hospital by ambulance, but what makes this story even more extraordinary is the fact that Violet and her partner, Izaic Nakedi, were not aware they were expecting another child.
The two have been together for 10 years and have a daughter who is two years old and a son of seven.
Izaic explained that early on Violet went to the clinic where they told her she was not pregnant, when she kept feeling something move in her stomach she went to the hospital where they did scans and assured her she was not pregnant.
Izaic said he was very scared when he heard of the new addition to the family.
They both said that they were less than prepared for little Blessing but that he is a sweet and very tiny baby.
