Museum celebrates young talent

The museum recently opened an art exhibition to celebrate and showcase the talent of young learners in Mogale City.

The Mogale City Local Municipality holds the talents of the local youth in high regard, and proved this when it opened the Youth Visual Arts Exhibition recently.

The exhibition was opened during June to showcase the artwork of learners from HoĆ«rskool Noordheuwel, St Ursula’s School and Krugersdorp High School, and even had some of them on sale.

One of the more interesting artworks.

Each child who had an artwork on display received a certificate from the municipality.

“We are very proud of and humbled by your participation in this exhibition,” said Advocate Ashmar Khuduge, executive manager of Community Development Services for Mogale City.

He went on to say that the municipality has been hosting this exhibition for a few years and is very proud to have produced international artists in the past.

David Serojane, from the Mogale Arts and Culture Forum, said they appreciated the participation of the schools and the museum, and that even with the challenges faced during this project, they remained excited to present these artists.

“It is a great privilege to be here and witness the work of these young artists,” said councillor Charmaine Ntlatlane, the MMC for Sports Arts, Culture and Recreation.

She added that it was significant that the exhibition opened in June, which is Youth Month.

“This serves as a reminder that our young people are at the forefront of the struggle and we take stock of the strides made with our youth,” she explained.

She added that she applauded the educators and learners for promoting art in schools.

Visitors were also entertained throughout the day by the musical styling of Tshegofatso Shalom, and after a walk through the exhibition, everyone enjoyed some nice refreshments.
