Cold front will be back, colder than before

Warmer pre-frontal interior winds are expected across Gauteng before the second, worse cold front hits the province.

Gauteng Weather announced on Tuesday, 23 July that the cold front isn’t gone just yet.

The first front hit Cape Town early on Tuesday morning, and set a course for Gauteng. Cape Town might see snowfall in the late afternoon or in the coming days. This can lead to colder than expected temperatures in Gauteng.

Gauteng Weather estimates that the new cold front will be in strong effect in the early morning hours of Wednesday, 24 July.

The strong breeze of the past few days is likely to continue, worsening the effect of the cold weather.

In their social media post, Gauteng Weather noted: “Usually, warmer North Westerly winds precede cold fronts and are replaced by much colder South Westerly winds upon a cold front’s arrival. What we’re experiencing now is the ‘warmer’ pre-frontal interior winds.”

The week’s weather forecast is as follows:

• Tuesday, 23 July – Sunny and windy with temperatures of 4°C in the morning and 20°C in the afternoon. A cold snap is expected during the day.

• Wednesday – Sunny and windy with a freezing low of 1°C in the morning and 16°C in the afternoon.

• Thursday – Sunny with a minimum of 2°C in the morning and a high of 17°C in the afternoon.

• Friday – Sunny with a minimum of 4°C in the morning and a high of 21°C in the afternoon.
