Youngsters read to Munsieville elderly
"Today, on Mandela Day, we chose to share our passion with the elders and youngsters."
The Harnham Group hosted a group of senior citizens at Cedar Country Lodge on Mandela Day, 18 July.
This joyous occasion was to celebrate the life of the world’s biggest transformation icon – Nelson Mandela – and featured bright youngsters from Munsieville who brought out the youthful energy from the abo-gogo and the oupas.
It was a serious 67 minute ‘jol’ in the spirit of empowering and improving the lives of the community of Munsieville.
The theme for the entertainment was reading. After being read to by the children, the elders performed poetry and shared personal stories of how the Madiba magic had touched them.

Lesley and Moloko Ramatshila-Mugeri, who bought the lodge in early 2018, are passionate about literacy.
“It is our mission to grow the culture of reading in black communities, by making it fun. That way, it will become a part of our lifestyle from an early age. Today, on Mandela Day, we chose to share our passion with the elders and youngsters,” said the new owners.
A 69-year-old from Munsieville Care-For-The-Aged, Samuel Natali, had this to say about the couple and the staff, “Today, I met people with good hearts, people filled with God’s love. The food was delicious, and the entertainment was beautiful”.
The legendary establishment, known to many as just Cedar Lodge, not only offers overnight lodging for leisure visits, but caters for corporate travellers and day visitors too. Renovations are under way to upgrade the conference facilities and outdoor restaurant before the Spring and in time for year end functions and parties.
“They say that when you give, you too will receive. Thank you, Moloko, and God bless Cedar Country Lodge,” said 85-year-old Martha Mashigo, expressing her gratitude.
The management team can’t hold back their excitement as they look forward to the launch of a revamped, bigger and better, Cedar Country Lodge.
“We appreciate and respect our loyal customers. We want them to feel just how special they are to Cedar Country Lodge by constantly improving in all aspects of the business, and offer the world-class country welcome they deserve every time,” said Moloko.
