Local lawyers treat vulnerable groups
The staff members offered free legal services to the vulnerable groups which these organisations represent on a regular basis.
The staff of Legal Aid SA Krugersdorp spent its Nelson Mandela Day giving back to three different vulnerable groups in the Krugersdorp area.
The three centres which received goods were Munsieville Care for the Aged, Polokego Place of Safety and Tshwaraganang Lekgotlhelle Disabled People’s Organisation. The staff members offered free legal services to the vulnerable groups which these organisations represent on a regular basis.
Each of the organisations has a range of challenges they are faced with and appreciated the gifts and products the lawyers from Legal Aid SA brought them.
The Munsieville Care for the Aged provides services to both able-bodied and disabled elderly people who live by themselves. The lawyers delivered 20 blankets and the residents were invited to use the free legal aid services they can access at their local office.
The Polokego Place of Safety is a non-profit organisation which seeks to protect the rights of abused women and children. They offer services such as welfare, education, and therapeutic interventions for the abused women and children.
One of the staff members from Legal Aid, Chetty Reddy, was among those who took time to play games with the children and also dropped off stationery, groceries and party packs.
Tshwaraganang Lekgotlhelle Disabled People’s Organisation offers skills and education to disabled children in the Munsieville community. The staff members contributed some cash and handed it over to the centre so they can buy the necessary groceries for the meals the centre offers.
This initiative is very close to hearts of the lawyers of the Krugersdorp office, as they often offer their legal skills to defend the rights of these vulnerable groups, but they appreciated the fact they could make an even bigger impact in the lives of their clients.
The office even had some coffee, tea and cookies for the clients who had appointments at the office on Mandela Day.
