The man had claimed to have been hijacked on the corner of Albertina Sisulu Road and Trezona Avenue in Mindalore by three armed males.

“The vehicle’s tracker was activated,” said Sebonyane.

When the police followed this lead they found the car at a guarded premises in Industria North.

The police were then informed that the vehicle was towed there from an accident scene and that the complainant had agreed to this.

“The signed agreement was found in possession of the complainant, who had given the towing company permission to tow the vehicle and keep it,” he said.

The complainant was later detained for perjury and was subsequently arrested. He is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

“The station commander, Brigadier Ngwako Mashao, applauded the members for a job well done. He also said the community should stop reporting false cases to the police as they will be arrested,” explained Sebonyane.
