“Walking at night can be dangerous. Asking for a lift from a stranger at night can be extremely dangerous,” exclaimed Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson, in a recent statement.
Two siblings learned this the hard way …
According to the statement, the siblings were walking on Kagiso Avenue near the filling station at 12.04am on 1 September, when a white Toyota Avanza pulled up beside them.

According to the brothers, there were seven people in the car and they asked them where they were going. The brothers were quickly offered a lift to Kagiso. The brothers took their offer and agreed to pay R40 before climbing into the vehicle.
While they were all travelling, the brothers alleged that their chauffeurs suddenly pulled out firearms and demanded everything that they had.
They took a Samsung cellphone, cash and Avon wristwatch before throwing the pair out of the moving car. The two brothers were later taken to hospital for the injuries they sustained to be treated.
“As the Kagiso Police, we are concerned about such acts of criminality and want to stop them before more people become victims,” Sibiya said.
The police are therefore appealing to members of the public who have information about these assailants to call the Kagiso Police on 011 696 9059/ 9065/ 9067, or call the Crime Stop line on 08600 10111.
