Two-year anniversary of Muldersdrift’s tornado

We take a look back at what happened on 9 October 2017.

Two years ago today, 9 October, a tornado ripped through parts of Muldersdrift, Ruimsig, Kromdraai and Sterkfontein, and left behind a path of destruction.

The most noticeable destruction was at Laerskool Protearif, which was left with extensive damage. Altogether many schools were affected, bringing the total amount of damages to R4 million.

Three people also lost their lives and many were left destitute. Businesses, malls and schools were closed for many weeks due to damage, and some never really recovered.

As the community commemorates and thinks back on that day in 2017, here are some of the stories, some good and some sad, that came from that day:
