9th Day Animal Shelter dogs need forever homes – urgently!
The 9th Day Animal Shelter received some much-needed donations but the sad reality is that they are still facing closure.
An uncertain future faces hundreds of rescued animals at the 9th Day Animal Shelter as the shelter faces closure very soon.
The Daisy Foundation visited the shelter on Sunday, 6 October, with a car full of donated goodies.
When Dylan Els lost his beloved Daisy, an 18-year-old dachshund, he decided that he wanted to do something in her memory.
Dylan and his family first started the Daisy Foundation as a campaign to promote the adoption of senior and vulnerable dogs, specifically on Facebook.

After the success of the campaign, Dylan decided he wanted to start a non-profit organisation which led to their website being created. The Daisy Foundation’s website is a contribution website where people can purchase dog-related products that will be donated to a shelter in need.
For the past six months they have been donating these purchases to various shelters in the Gauteng area and this time it was the 9th Day Animal Shelter’s turn.
They donated 260kg of dry dog food, dog treats, dog baskets and dog bowls.
The donation was welcomed by Charmaine Booysen, the owner of the shelter, as they are currently in a state where they will soon be closing down.
Charmaine explained that after careful consideration they will be closing down their main kennels which house about 160 dogs at the moment. Add the dogs who are still in foster care and the shelter has about 260 dogs who urgently need new and loving homes.
She explained that she will never give up on helping animals but that it is getting increasingly more difficult to keep the shelter afloat.
What the shelter needs at this moment is financial support. Charmaine explained that although they appreciate dog food, they still have rent, vet bills and staff to pay and that the staff cannot work for free. They also need the community to adopt their dogs. These dogs need new forever homes before the shelter closes down.
Their adoption fee is only R700 which includes sterilisation, micro-chipping, up to date vaccinations and de-worming. They also bring the dogs to your home for the introductions. Charmaine explains it as a quick and easy process.
Be sure to check out their Facebook page to see all the cute pups up for adoption.
