Why not help put a smile on a young face?
Amanda van der Merwe and her daughter have decided to have a party for the children at the Teddy Bear Clinic this year and they need your help.
“I am so extremely blessed, I have to pay it forward,” said a very excited Amanda van der Merwe.
Every year she and her daughter, Elmari Welman, take on a charity project together and this year they have decided to have a Christmas party for the children in the care of the Teddy Bear Clinic. They run a Facebook page called Amandéri Charity Assist, on which Amanda explains that they are not a non-profit organisation but rather a support group for other organisations.
They started collecting donations in 2010, and since then have helped countless charities. They call their love for children and animals their driving force.
Although they do not accept cash donations, Amanda said that she is not afraid to beg for donations to help those in need.
This year they need help in the form of Christmas presents for the young children from the Teddy Bear Clinic. According to the Teddy Bear Clinic’s Facebook page their mission is to minimise the secondary harm to children and their families when entering the child protection system by providing expertise, information and support in order to make their journey a healing one.
How can you help support Amanda with this Christmas party? Easy – they have to collect presents for 205 children ranging in age from three to eighteen years.
There are two way you can donate a gift. Firstly, make visit to PicknPay Noordheuwel where they will have a Christmas tree covered with Christmas ornaments. Each ornament will have a gender and age on it. Take an ornament and buy a present according to the gender and age provided. The present can then be handed into management or participants can ask for Dorah.
The presents should not cost more than R100. Alternatively, contact Amanda, and she will tell you who she still needs presents for.
Gifts can include plastic balls, colouring books, wax crayons, toy cars, small dolls, deodorant for the older kids, costume jewellery, marbles, clay, colouring pencils, T-shirts or shirts for boys and girls in all sizes, stationary for the older kids, clutch pencils (they have a lot of refills but no pencils), hair accessories, and aftershave for the older boys,
