Damaged sign on bridge repaired quickly after another truck hit it

A large steel beam became undone and hung precariously over the busy road below after being struck by a truck.

Every few months a truck driver takes a chance and turns down Chamdor Road, which becomes Frederick Cooper Road on the other side, down into the dip under the rail bridge.

For most vehicles, the bridge poses no problems. It’s when a truck that exceeds the 4,9 metres height limit attempts to pass under it that the problems start. Trucks have become stuck on the bridge multiple times over the years, and every now and again some slightly damage the bridge, as noted by Public Safety officers on the scene. They also damage the large advertising signs hanging from the bridge.

The sign in question, owned by SKP Media, was recently struck again by tall truck. This time around, a large steel beam became undone and hung precariously over the busy road below, lightly swaying under strong winds.

When the News team arrived on the scene, Attie Els from the Sector 9 Community Policing Forum was busy on the phone, attempting to get the fire department and municipality out to possibly remove the dangerous beam before it came down on motorists.

The News contacted SKP Media to inform them of the situation. They acted quickly and a representative soon arrived, who consulted with Bovhu Printing and Designing. A short while later, a team arrived with a generator mounted to their truck.

CPF members and Public Safety officers cordoned off the two sides of the road, and work began to quickly remove the beam.

In the end, all parties involved acted quickly and no harm came to drivers or the bridge itself.
