Refuse workers doing their part during lockdown

Waste disposal is always an essential service, and during lockdown teams of refuse collectors still work hard to keep the town clean.

With more people home more often, the need to have refuse bins emptied has increased.

Mogale City Waste Management is still fully operational, with refuse collectors heading out each week to empty every household’s garbage bin. While doing so, they wear whatever protective gear they can, with most donning a mask and gloves.

Mogale City Local Municipality Corporate Communication’s Adrian Amod noted that, “For the safety of our employees and all those who come into contact with our trucks, the West Rand District Disaster Management Covid-19 response team, of which the municipality is a part, also sanitizes the trucks on a regular basis.

“To increase the general levels of safety precautions and awareness, it could go a long way if Mogale City residents can play their part by taking measures such as using gloves when handling the bins, or disinfecting the handles of the refuse bins.”
