Three local diamond laboratories you can trust

There are various laboratories around the globe that examine and report on the individual identity of each diamond and gemstone.

The report is an independent classification and is unbiased.  Each stone has its own quality components, an “ID” of sorts, that affect the value of the stone.  Laboratories do not issue a monetary value on diamonds.

Having a laboratory certified stone gives both the seller and the buyer peace of mind.  It gives the customer a way to thoroughly understand their gemstone or diamond.  Having the stone’s certificate number recorded is also often mandated when doing an appraisal on a jewellery item.

As a South African consumer, it is your right to insist on a certified diamond when purchasing a piece of jewellery.  As a buyer, it is vital to understand any documentation you have, what it means and the impact it has on your stones’ value.  There are three known, and trusted, internationally recognized Johannesburg laboratories.
