Mogale City gives almost 50 percent pensioners rebate

The local municipality has invited pensioners and disabled residents who own property in Mogale City to apply for a pensioners rebate.

The Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) has invited all senior citizens who own property in Mogale City or those who have a physical or mental disability in terms of the approved Property Rates Policy, to apply for a 45 per cent rebate on their property rates.

The closing date for submissions is 30 September 2020.

Those who meet the following requirements are invited to apply:
• The applicant must be 60 years or older
• The applicant must own the property on which the rates are charged
• The applicant must reside on the property permanently
• The property must be zoned ‘residential’
• The total household income of the applicant must not exceed R150 000 per annum
• Account payments must be up to date or an arrangement to pay outstanding amounts must be in place
• Proof of income, a recent tax statement or three months’ bank statements must be provided
• A resident with a physical or mental disability must provide proof that he/ she receives a social pension/ grant and must be certified by a health practitioner as being disabled
• Persons or households registered as indigents do not qualify for the pensioners’ rebate as indigents qualify for a 100 per cent exemption

If all criteria are met, pensioners will receive a 45 per cent pensioner’s rebate above and beyond the normal residential property owner rebate. First-time applicants can download an application form from www.mogalecity.gov.za.

As a special concession during this lockdown period, pensioners who already receive such a rebate do not have to submit a renewal application for the 2020/ 2021 financial year. Property owners who are in arrears in their payments may approach the municipality’s Credit Control Division to make payment arrangements.
