A joint crime-prevention operation in Magaliesburg, Hekpoort and Tarlton was led by senior female officers and yielded over 200 arrests recently.
The operation was a collaboration between the South African Police Service, law-enforcement agencies, the Gauteng Traffic Department, Mogale City Traffic Department, the Department of Community Safety, Correctional Services, and the Oostermoed and Razorvox security companies.
In a statement sent by Captain Raymond Sebonyane, West Rand District Police spokesperson, he explained the aim of the operation was to concentrate on crime-infested areas. The operation consisted of two roadblocks, stops and searches, compliance inspections at second-hand goods dealers, liquor outlets and shops, as well as compliance checks in terms of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002.

“The operation focused on hijackings, house robberies, burglaries, theft of motor vehicles, rape and gender-based violence in our rural policing area,” read Sebonyane’s statement.
He also explained that during the operation a MAN Trim truck was recovered on the N14 near Tarlton. The truck was allegedly hijacked in Midrand.

More than 210 arrests were also made for various crimes including murder, attempted murder, rape, attempted rape, armed robbery, robbery, kidnapping, fraud, business burglary, housebreaking and theft, pointing a firearm, domestic violence related crimes, drunken driving, possession of an unlicensed firearm, sexual assault, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of housebreaking implements, malicious damage to property, contravening of a protection order, contempt of court order, possession of stolen goods, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, selling illicit cigarettes, selling expired liquor, interfering with the police while executing their duties, public violence and undocumented persons.
The police also issued 24 fines for selling expired liquor as well as traffic fines to a value of R31 800.

Colonel Melinda Prinsloo, Khutsong Police station commander thanked all law-enforcement agencies for their efforts and their dedication to preventing and combating things that may threaten the safety and security of the communities.
We will continue to stamp our authority as the state to ensure that law and order are maintained, and the community of West Rand District is safe,” Prinsloo said.
