The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted many activities that were planned for this year and unfortunately the much-anticipated Miss Monnas pageant could not take place. In its place the school hosted their new Face of Monnas competition.

Owing to Covid-19 many of our activities were cancelled, so we hosted a virtual competition instead. With the virtual world being all we had by which to communicate, this also became a platform to keep our school’s marketing going,” explained Crizeld van der Vyver, the competition organiser.

She added that all their junior and senior girls were encouraged to enter the competition that started on 2 June this year.

The girls had to send in photos of themselves in their school wear with a motivation saying why they chose Monnas. The top five junior and senior girls were then chosen from these entries.

Today (30 November) is the last day you can vote for your fan favourite, so if you wish to vote, go to the Hoërskool Monument High Facebook or Instagram pages. The junior and senior winners will be chosen by an external panel of judges.

The winners will help to promote the school’s image as next year Monnas will host its 100-year festivities.

“Even though Covid-19 took away our physical platform for Miss Monnas we can still make our learners part of the Monnas culture and show the public the image that our learners project,” Crizelda said.

The top five in each category had their photo taken by Celeste Cilliers Photography, who also presented each of them with a gift, while Wanita’s Photography sponsored Face of Monnas T-shirts and gift bags.
