Kagiso Police arrested a couple aged 56 and 58 suspected of assaulting a patron at their shebeen during the festive season.
“The victim alleged that he was at Tshepisong, chilling at the couple’s tavern with friends at about 8pm on Wednesday, 16 December 2020,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, the Kagiso Police spokesperson.
The victim spotted his brother-in-law standing outside the tavern and went to him. One of the suspects (the wife and co-owner of the shebeen) suddenly appeared with a bucket of water and threw it over the victim. She then went back into the shebeen and when she returned, she brought along her husband who hit the victim in the face with the butt of a firearm.”
The victim reportedly sustained internal injuries to his jaw, and the couple was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
“No one is above the law,” warned Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.
“The law of this country protects everyone who lives in it. There is no person that will attack and assault anyone and sleep comfortably at his home as if nothing had happened, regardless of his or her financial status.”
