Curro Krugersdorp High School does things a bit differently. Being an independent school, the 2020 matric group wrote an Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exam at the end of last year.
This group made history on Friday, 19 February when they became Curro Krugersdorp’s first Grade 12 group to graduate from the school. They arrived at the high school bright and early where they were met by school head Elmar de Klerk and Executive Head of Curro Krugersdorp Independent School, Annemarie Lombard who, with help from a few faculty members, handed out the now alumni’s IEB National Senior Certificate results.

“Dear Grade 12s of 2020,” Annemarie addressed the group. “You have made us so proud! Congratulations on a sterling effort and excellent results. You showed not only commitment, but amazing grit and tenacity during extremely difficult circumstances. May God bless you and your parents, and may all your dreams come true.”
Nomvula Chasakara said that she’s planning on studying politics and law this year, but still has to choose between the University of the Witwatersrand, Rhodes University or the University of Cape Town. “I have an interest in where politics in our country is going. I think I can play a big role in the country going forward,” she said, adding that, “I’ll miss the Curro rituals, seeing friends, sending memes in class, and even the stress!”

Simphiwe Makapela is on his way to study LLB Law at the University of Pretoria, explaining that, “I want to be an attorney to help people. I want to help the little guy who no one notices”.
Teliza Korff will also be attending the University of Pretoria to study Senior Phase Education. She loved Engineering Graphics and Design, and wishes to teach it to others, she said.

Among their more than 50 Grade 12s from last year, Curro High boasts with a high tertiary exemption and excellent bachelor’s pass rate.
