Real estate agency supports 9th Day
NPPM Properties collected food, blankets and other pet items to help 9th Day animal shelter care for stray dogs.
With winter having arrived and the cold already part of our daily lives, focus once again falls on our furry friends who are in dire need of help, shelter and daily food.
Every month, NPPM Properties chooses one non-profit organisation (NPO) to support, and they collect funds and items they need for them. Last month their focus was on the 9th Day animal shelter, which the team has developed a soft spot for in their hearts.

Simoné Sauer, an NPPM employee, said she had worked with the shelter before. She knows how much they do for the community and understands that it has a great need for support from the public. When Simoné told Noelene Potgieter, owner of the NPPM’s Krugersdorp branch, she and everyone else agreed that they’d be the best organisation to support.
Simoné spent her Saturdays collecting funds and other donations from the public, and on Saturday, 29 May, they hosted their final day of collections outside their offices in Noordheuwel, inviting the Agamis Elisium motorcycling club, which members also collected donations, to assist with the handover. The biker group does many charitable drives and lent a hand with NPPM’s endeavours.
Charmaine Booysens, owner of 9th Day said, “We mainly focus on abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. We pick them up in fields, capture them with traps and rehabilitate, sterilise and vaccinated them. Whenever they’re ready, we find homes for them. We focus a lot on outreach projects, and do sterilisations and vaccinations.”
Charmaine explained that few people know about the work they do, and that having organisations such as NPPM to help spread awareness is integral to their operations. 9th Day cares for about 250 to 300 dogs every day, and largely depends on sponsorships to keep going.
“We need mostly food. We use about 3 000kg of food every month. Then, we need help with vet bills. Because of our outreach programmes, our vet bill currently sits at R50 000. They charge us rescue rates, but the need is just too big. We try to help where we can.”
