Covid-19: Mogale City marked as one of the sub-districts with the highest number of new infections

New cases continue to increase across the Province with Gauteng registering 5111 new cases in June 9, accounting for over 50% of new cases in the country.

The Gauteng Department of Health (DoH) in a statement said that it was concerned by the alarming increase in Covid-19 infections.

New cases continue to increase across the Province with Gauteng registering 5111 new cases in June 9, accounting for over 50% of new cases in the country.

The sub-districts with the highest number of new confirmed cases as of June 9 is as follows:

  • Mogale City with 211 new cases
  • Tshwane-3 with 538 new cases
  • Tshwane-4 with 359 new cases
  • Johannesburg Region C with 401 new cases
  • Johannesburg Region B with 338 new cases
  • Ekurhuleni N2 with 334 new cases
  • Ekurhuleni S1 with 248 new cases
  • Emfueni with 183 new cases

The DoH stated that non-pharmaceutical measures remain the best method of containing the spread of Covid-19.

The Department urged all people in the province to do their part to protect themselves and help contain transmission of the virus, by adhering to the following preventative measures:

  • Physical distancing of greater than 1.5m
  • Wearing of masks
  • Hand hygiene
  • Avoiding public spaces and gatherings
  • Seek care early if you develop symptoms

The Province continues to monitor adherence to Covid-19 measures in communities, schools and other public places, as well as intensifying its contact tracing efforts in especially the hotspot areas.
