Four residents from Rietvallei recently received a huge donation when they were gifted with new wheelchairs that will help them be more mobile.

Four patients from Rietvallei recently became the proud owners of a brand new wheelchair that was donated to them.

The team from the West Rand District Rehabilitation Unit was joined by Councillor Shabier Dabhelia when they visited four of their patients and gifted them with wheelchairs donated by the Ashraful Aid Organisation.

On Thursday July 8, the teams drove to the patient’s homes in Rietvallei to deliver the wheelchairs.

The first patient to receive her wheelchair was the 89-year-old Kate Madondo. “This is my first ever wheelchair! I am very happy,” she told the News.

Kate is blind and has bad arthritis which makes walking and moving difficult. With this new wheelchair, it will be easier for Kate’s family to move her around.

The second recipient was Joyce Moato who is now 73 years old. Joyce was confined to her bed but will now be able to move around with her new wheelchair.

The 73-year old Evelina Thlambisa was the third patient to receive a wheelchair. She had a stroke which made walking extremely difficult. When asked how she felt about the new wheelchair she said, “Very excited” with a huge smile on her face.
