#Unrest: Police thank public ‘for not being part of the violence’

'We would like to thank all community members of Krugersdorp for not being part of public violence, the looting of shops nor malls in and around the Krugersdorp policing precinct for the past few days'.

Acting Krugersdorp Police station commander Colonel Christelle Booysen reassured the public that all is calm in town and have thanked members of the public for being law-abiding citizens.

Aside from Monday’s brief activity in Kagiso we reported on, authorities have confirmed that no further activity has been reported in the Krugersdorp area.

In a statement issued by Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane, Colonel Booysen said, “We would like to thank all community members of Krugersdorp for not being part of public violence, the looting of shops nor malls in and around the Krugersdorp policing precinct for the past few days.”

Colonel Booysen added as much as Krugersdorp and the surrounding areas had not been affected by protests, she wanted to urge the community to remain calm.

She reminded that no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands if a crime does take place.

Colonel Booysen further warned the community to refrain from publishing fake news or unconfirmed news with regard to any person or crime on social media and to adhere to the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

The police want to also encourage the public to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols as they are prescribed by the Disaster Management Act and also report any suspicious or illicit activities.
