Rotary reaches out to mothers in need

The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp is consistently on the lookout for organisations to help in their charitable efforts and recently set their sights on House Nehemiah.

The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp has been around for about eight decades, always making time so others can either get back on their feet or make it through the week.

More than that, Rotary members are consistently reaching out to other organisations to help them help our town’s most vulnerable.

Rotary members Lynette Musgrove and Brendan Boraine, while looking for the club’s next project, came across an article in the News about the new house for single mothers and children in need, House Nehemiah, which had room for 18 people at the time, and relied on donations from outside to continue functioning.

By Tuesday, August 31 Lynette and Brendan met with Kyle Tolman, founder of Cross Connect Community Outreach and House Nehemiah to hand over toiletries and blankets.

Spring was only a couple of weeks away, but the country was still experiencing a few cold snaps and most nights in Krugersdorp in general were still fairly cold. Even with warmer weather around the corner, Rotary felt that a new house such as this would always be in need of warm blankets, even if they’re stored away in a few week’s time for next winter.

“We want to support the people such as Nehemiah and many of the other organisations who give back to the community. We’re a small group, but we look after the Golden Age Village and the Memorial Flats. We wanted to help Nehemiah because it’s Women’s Month and they help single mothers,” said Brendan.

“I joined Rotary because I’ve done many things for the community but I can’t always do everything on my own; I need to work with a team. We read about Nehemiah and wanted to help. The article said 18 people could be housed here, so we’re donating 18 blankets and 18 packs of various toiletry items,” Lynette explained.
