“Today is all about the frontline healthcare workers. We appreciate the effort they have put in and the sacrifice they have made during this pandemic. The time away from your family and the risk you take home to your families are immeasurable. The colleagues you have lost during this hard time … today we thank you for everything you have done for us and the devotion you have given; without you we would have been lost,” said David Mashegoane, manager at Sasol Pinehaven.

Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic healthcare practitioners have been at the forefront working tirelessly to ensure that people in South Africa receive medical care, and risking their own lives to nurture and save the lives of others.

Senior manager for Corporate Affairs at Sasol Energy, Christopher Kabosha acknowledged the mammoth task that healthcare workers have on their shoulders. “We were thinking to ourselves, what could we do to support you, and this is our small way to say thank you. This is indeed an opportunity to thank our unsung heroes in the healthcare service, and it’s a small way for us to provide these Retail Convenience Centre (RCC) vouchers to you.”

The filling station has made 1 000 RCC vouchers available to healthcare workers at the two hospitals, which entitle them to a hot beverage and a snack. Peter Raschel, franchise owner added that some of their suppliers donated additional items which can be provided when healthcare workers redeem their vouchers. “Among them are 12 cases of mini-pies from RCL Foods; coffee capsules from Lavazza; Blue Ribbon bread; Redbull energy drinks; as well as hampers from McNabs.”

Jurica Loehmer, regional field sales manager for Redbull said they always strive to do something for the good of others. “It’s always great to be part of something big like this. We believe in giving wings to people and their ideas, and this is exactly it. This is an opportunity to support the healthcare workers who have been there for us endlessly. I have experienced it personally and there hasn’t been a day when we haven’t been grateful for all the healthcare workers. Even though we can’t see it, there is always still a smile behind the mask. Thank you.”
