Warning: Bogus journalist on the prowl – again

Beware of persons falsely claiming to work for the Krugersdorp News.

The News received an enquiry from a community member who became suspicious when someone they did not know approached them for an interview, especially because the person claimed to be a Krugersdorp News journalist.

This is not the first time this has happened, and the conduct of the bogus journalists reportedly was inappropriate.

Please take note that anyone, except journalists Jaco Human and Natasha Pretorius, and editor Clinton Botha claiming to be a Krugersdorp News journalist is an impersonator.

The contact details of the above three legitimate Krugersdorp News representatives can be found on page four of the newspaper or on the Krugersdorp News website. The pinned post on the Krugersdorp News Facebook page (the first post visitors will see) features both Jaco and Natasha’s photos and contact information.

Legitimate journalists are registered with the Print and Digital Media South Africa (PDMSA) body and carry with them a South African Press Card. That press card is backed by the Press Council of South Africa and WAN-IFRA, the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.

Note that the Krugersdorp News is the sister newspaper of the Roodepoort Record, Roodepoort Northsider and Randfontein Herald which have their own journalists who may at times cover stories in the Krugersdorp area, but they will always clearly identify their affiliation.

Please report any instances of people falsely claiming to be Krugersdorp News journalists to our office on 011 955 1130.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
