Expo held to support local charities

The second Artisan and Design Expo was another great success, helping four local charities to keep doing what they're doing.

When artists and designers come together for a cause, something truly wonderful can happen.

Take the Kenmare Artisan and Design Expo as an example.

The weekend of September 17 to 19 saw 35 exhibitors banding together to support local charities Cradle of Hope, The 9th Day animal shelter, HIS School Dayspring and ChicMamas Jozi which sells preloved clothing to support early childhood development programmes.

Karen Harvey, expo organiser said, “All vendors are giving 10% of their takings to the charities, and the majority is going to Cradle of Hope. This is the second time we’re hosting this expo; the other one was over two days in May. There are so many talented people who don’t have a platform, and we want to provide that for them. We will do another one of these in November at The Base Church in Muldersdrift.”

This time around, the expo was held at the 97 Frederick Cooper businesses premises in cooperation with expo coordinator Lilanie Reeler, owner of Artistic Hair Design.

The event included musical performances from Rick Jansens and Bianca Blanc, a fun run, and appearance by Miss Regal International Teen finalist Savannah Taylor.
