Much-needed financial boost, pet food donation for Fora thanks to Lion Club

The Lions Club of Krugersdorp spent hours in the sun collecting much-needed funds for Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora).

With the big move to a new premises on the horizon for Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) and knowing that they’re still in dire need of funds, The Lions Club of Krugersdorp and Helderkruin spent their Sunday, September 26 in the sun at Khosa Club’s parking area. They collected money for a cause they deeply believe in at the Cedar Tree Craft Market.

“One of our Lions members, Anne Corden, also runs the Khosa Sports Club,” explained Ashley Stander, Lions President.

“We did a gate collection for CHOC last month and managed to collect R2 700. The team spent five full hours in the sweltering heat collecting money. The day was a roaring success with market-goers donating far more than the regular R10 parking fee, bringing the day’s total to R5 800. It was clear that the Krugersdorp community loves and cares deeply for animals. Many times, when we approached cars, you could sense that the drivers weren’t interested until we mentioned that the money was going to Fora, which changed the mood entirely. People even left to get money and came back to give it to us, more than once!”

The Lions Club has been in existence for 59 years now and runs various projects throughout the year. With Covid-19 changing the way many organisations operated, the Lions started looking for other ways to help, and decided on this project as one of their new approaches.

The Lions Club transferred the funds to the Fora bank account and handed over a few packets of pet food during their visit to Fora.
