VIDEO: NUMSA action spreads to Krugersdorp: ‘Picketing will continue until a resolution, agreement is found’

'Picketing will continue until a resolution and agreement with employers are found' – NUMSA spokesperson.

The News wishes to warn the community and road users of ongoing National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) protest action in town.

According to reports the group of NUMSA members gathered early on Tuesday, October 6 and started marching through the streets of Krugersdorp.

The News reached out to NUMSA West Rand’s offices and was told to speak to one of the marshals on scene.

When the News arrived on scene, journalist Natasha Pretorius was told to protect their constitutional rights and not take photos of them, adding “We don’t talk to journalists”.

According to eyewitnesses, the group will be continuing their march to Chamdor, and road users are urged to use alternative routes. Dowry Security and the police were on scene as well.

The News requested comment from the NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola who said they were in the middle of an engineering strike.

Yesterday October 5 was the first day and today members are picketing in more localised areas. They are picketing in areas of employment. This picketing will continue until a resolution and agreement with employers are found.”

In one of the videos sent to the News, a large group was spotted on Voortrekker Road. Some were wearing what appeared to be NUMSA regalia, and other not.
