A 55-year-old woman was handed a life sentence by the Krugersdorp Regional Court after she was found guilty of raping a mentally challenged man.
She received an additional six years imprisonment for sexual assault.
The woman who was hired as a caregiver by the 21-year-old man’s family, raped and sexually assaulted the victim at his house in Krugersdorp while his parents were not at home.
The matter was reported by a neighbour after the victim told him about his ordeal,” said Colonel Dimakatso Sello.
The woman’s sentences will run concurrently.
Gauteng’s Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela commended the investigating officers for ensuring that the perpetrator stays behind bars.
“I am pleased with this sentence as the victim will now be safe and comforted that the perpetrator has been removed from society,” he said.
He also said that the Gauteng Police are determined and dedicated to fighting crimes committed against women and children.
