More than R100 000 raised at Ride Joburg
Every year, the Bethany House Trust has multiple cyclists representing them at the 947 Ride Joburg event to raise funds. The 25th edition was no exception.
For many cyclists the 947 Ride Joburg cycling event is the pinnacle event of the season, one that many train for the entire year.
November 21 marked the 25th edition of the event with cyclists starting at the FNB Stadium and finishing at the same venue after riding a loop of 97km around Johannesburg, including Sandton, Fourways and Randburg.
Every year, the Bethany House Trust has multiple cyclists representing them at the race. This year, 32 intrepid cyclists bore the Bethany House logo on their shirts in the Ride Joburg road portion with the youngest member, Jesse Suremann at only 16 years of age, taking part in her first Ride Joburg event. She finished in a time of three hours and 32 minutes.

Marina Houghs, founder of the Friends of Bethany House Trust which is a Bethany House support group said, “Since participating for the first time entering a Bethany House team for the ‘Ride for a Purpose’ project has been a flagship project of the Friends of Bethany House Trust. It’s the project that yields the largest income for us every year.
The fundraising for this project has not concluded, but we can report that we’ve already raised more than R110 000. This project is one that also attracts interest from businesses, which is the marketing value behind the ride, and boosts community support for Bethany House.
“The Trust depends on the private sector for at least 40% of the income necessary to provide high-quality services in childhood development.”
A big Bethany House supporter, André Kleynhans from Fine Home Platinum stepped up as the team leader, ensuring that all his riders made it to the finish line.
