Drunken driving, assault top list of 161 arrests made in District

Police in the West Rand District again held weekend crime-prevention operations which led to 161 arrests – most for assault, drunken driving, domestic violence and theft.

One-hundred and sixty one suspects were arrested by police across the West Rand District this past weekend.

Sergeant Mulalo Ndou from the West Rand District Corporate Communication said those who faced the full might of the law were arrested for the following offences:

• Rape and sexual assault – three
• Drunken driving – 32
• Business burglary and home invasion – three
• Assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and common assault – 26
• Theft – 16
• Contravening a protection order – two
• Possession of an unlicensed firearm and violating the Firearms Act – four
• Masquerading as police – three
• Possession of drugs – nine
• Vandalism – two
• Possession of stolen cables – two
• Common robbery and kidnapping – two
• Domestic violence – 15

Others were arrested for various crimes such as possession of a dangerous weapon, common assault, intimidation, shoplifting and undocumented foreign nationals.

“All arrested suspects will appear in their respective magistrates’ courts within the District,” Nodu added.
