The Kagiso Police recently saw to it that five illegal shebeens were shut down, and the owners are now facing charges of dealing in liquor without a licence.
Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said they would not stop their fight to close down illegal shebeens in the area, as they are primary contributors to contact crimes such as attempted murder, murder, domestic violence, street robbery and rape.
On April 8 they conducted a crime-prevention operation that lasted from 16:00 until 22:00, and police focused on Soul City, Central Kagiso, Swaneville, Rietvallei and Tshepisong.

One shebeen was closed down in Soul City; one in Extension 12; two in Swaneville; and one in Rietvallei. Four people were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and detectives traced three people for suspected domestic violence.
Sibiya said the Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna thanked his Vispol operational commander, Colonel Peter Mabuso and his hard-working team for their success despite the unfriendly, rainy weather.
