LETTER: Blaming others won’t restore our electricity

We all hate Eskom's load-shedding. Who can we blame? — local pastor.

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

We all hate Eskom’s load-shedding. It causes traffic problems, financial loss and untold inconveniences. Who can we blame?

The previous regime, the present powers, or corruption and large-scale looting? All the above may have added fuel to the fire.

But blaming others won’t restore our electricity. Many of the most successful people in history made their mark by turning a bad situation into their favour. Imagine your children one day telling their children how you cooked supper on a fire, ate by candle light and took a bath in the flickering light of a flame.

Memories are made when we bring light into our darkness. You may be in a dark place today. Blaming others will not solve your problem. Ask God to turn your crisis into a memory for his glory.

Jesus turned his cross into a crown, his grave into a temple. Your darkness may be God’s opportunity to show his love. Memories are more powerful than money. This article was written during load-shedding under the flickering flame of one candle.

PS. For millions of South Africans this is their normal. God bless South Africa.
